Doreen has a medical condition that makes it hard for her to walk, so when she was a child, even when her family had enough money to send her to school, the four-mile walk made it nearly impossible. Her dream is to go back and finish her primary schooling, but first, her main concern is for her son, Michael, who wasn't able to attend school for the first seven years of his life. Now that Wanda is working with Tuli, she is determined that her son have an easier life than she did, but he has a lot of catching up to do. Wanda and other Tuli artisans, like Evelyn and Florence, use their extra money to buy Michael supplemental books so he can catch up.

Wanda wants more than anything to learn to speak English and visit America. She's always singing, dancing, and laughing -- she can even make people who don't speak her language laugh!
